The Borough of Mount Carmel is located in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, within an area known as the Anthracite Coal Region. The Borough has an interesting history beginning with the nearby discovery of anthracite coal in 1790.

Mining became the primary industry in the nineteenth century which drew immigrants from Eastern and Southern Europe.  Today, their descendants still reside in the town, which was incorporated as the Borough of Mount Carmel on November 3, 1862.

This website will be a reference tool providing visitors and residents with valuable information about government services provided by their elected officials and staff.

Please look around the website for necessary information you can use if you are a visitor looking to settle here. If you are a resident, read about Borough Council Meetings, Ordinances and anything else to help you become a better informed and valuable citizen.

Thank you for your time and welcome to Mount Carmel.
